Jersey Stamps,

1990 Christmas. Jersey Parish Churches (2nd Series)

SG535-538

Mint never hinged.

SG535 - St. Helier's Church SG536 - Grouville Church SG537 - St. Saviour's Church SG538 - St. John's Church. This set of stamps, along with the other 2 sets in this series, depict Jersey Parish Churches, based on pastels by local artist Peter Layton. The ages of the 12 parishes are unknown, but they certainly ante-date written history. The 14p stamp shows St. Helier's Church. The oldest building in town is named after a Belgium missionary who moved to Jersey about 540AD to preach the Christian faith, but was martyered 15 years later by marauding pirates.
